I create Posh Paper Mache to make you smile! Individually hand built from scratch using salvaged materials and my unique mixed media methods, each is designed to amuse and uniquely endowed with character and a touch of daftness using snippets of decoupage.

My mini birds and animals come in a large selection of familiar species and make a perfect present for any ornithologist or zoophile! If you are looking for more of a statement, selected designs are available in medium and large versions. Why not personalise yours for free? I can add a few words in decoupage to make it extra special. Or if you prefer them simply painted, just let me know.

How Are They Made?
My sculptures are individually hand crafted using non-traditional materials and idiosyncratic techniques that are a result of years of creative ingeniousness! In combination they create surprisingly solid, substantial feeling, and delightfully tactile forms.
Each piece is built in multiple stages beginning with salvaged materials to create a skeleton and newspaper to add bulk. Features such as ears, whiskers and antennae are added using wire and scrap wood.
The form is then sculpted using a paper mache recipe specific to my own requirements. After a few days drying time the piece can be sanded, painted and then decoupaged with handmade papers or clippings.
Each sculpture is unique and the final look is subject to the materials I have available at the time of creation.
A coat of varnish gives them a protective layer and I am currently testing my sculptures for life outdoors. Find out more about my techniques by reading my blog.

Why Paper Mache?
I'm a formally trained Fine Art Sculptor/Painter who takes delight in alternative materials, having explored many creative techniques over a 30 year career.
Often the art around us falls into into tried and tested genres but I find it more interesting to make something different. Art supplies can be expensive but I wanted to use materials without limitations. The idea of cultivating greater respect for such a humble technique also appealed. Mostly, I just needed a vehicle for my silly sense of humour..!
Technically, I make mixed media sculpture which is far removed from the conventional balloons covered in newspaper that you may have made yourself. The "Posh Paper Mache" technique that I have developed gives me the freedom to fabricate almost anything in all sizes or shapes and fun doing it! To have a go yourself, visit my Blog.
