The Palms

Guest House

Isles of Scilly

What to Expect

The Palms bungalow was built by my Grandfather in the 1930’s and is named after the large number of palm trees that he planted that now form a much-loved feature of the garden. Located in the centre of the island above Holy Vale, with it’s nature trail that leads down to Porth Helic bay, and set within established gardens, this is the perfect hidden oasis to relax in and enjoy island life at your own pace.

With three bedrooms, The Palms sleeps up to 6 self catering guests. The house offers an abundance of space for families and friends to come together. The lush tranquillity of the gardens allows you to listen to and watch the plethora of birds, soak up the peaceful surroundings and enjoy the atmosphere from either of the two terraces.

A pleasant 25-minute (1.5 mile) walk will take you to the centre of Hugh town, where you'll find shops, cafés, restaurants, art and activities, plus the main harbour where you will find daily boat trips to the other islands. If you'd rather not walk, the local bus service stops on the road just outside to the property, or there are taxi’s, bicycles and golf buggies available to hire.

And don’t worry, the beach is not far away! A 10-15 minute stroll will take you down to the nearest beaches which are Pelistry or Watermill Cove (with the duck pond en route) and if you peek beyond the largest palm tree in the garden you can just glimpse the sea! Nearby cafe’s, Carn Vean or Longstone are great places to enjoy lunch or maybe an afternoon tea and cake without venturing into town.

In the evenings, there is a separate snug room with a TV so adults can relax in the main living room whilst the children can watch their choice of entertainment or enjoy a board game in the other. Or if you are a party animal, there are a selection of authentically local pubs on the islands, who will sometimes show the sport or offer a traditional pub quiz!
The central location of The Palms is a great base from which to explore the island as a whole, which is walkable in a day (and if you are a fellow artists provides endless inspiration), or simply provides somewhere to switch off and enjoy your surroundings, offering the perfect balance of peace, comfort, and convenience.
