Puffin
This Puffin is handcrafted from mostly salvaged materials using my unique sculpture methods and particular Posh Paper Mache mix. The Isles of Scilly is a well known haven for the much loved Puffin and it’s possible to take a trip out to the uninhabited island of Annet to see them at the right time of year. Visit the Blog page of my website where you can see how my sculptures are made! The mini birds that you find in The Palms are pre-packed so that you can carry them home without harm. You can also find a larger selection of my work for sale on the Islands in Gallery Tresco and sometimes Pot Buoys Gallery on St. Agnes.
This seabird begins with a template made from reclaimed wood and then manufactured metal legs are added to allow it to stand freely. The work is varnished but will be ephemeral outdoors - my tests show they can last for up to three years outside (which is a comparable lifespan to a willow sculpture) - artwork should last indefinitely if placed inside. This feathered friend measures 5cm w by 11cm l by 11cm h approximately. If you can’t find a Puffin in The Palms you can order one from the main shop on my website where you can also find alternative creatures for sale. Each sculpture is unique and will vary a little in appearance from the photos, meaning you receive a distinctive character! Every one is individually sculpted then hand-painted and decoupaged with fun snippets from magazines or some of my hand-painted papers. I also create larger bird designs which make a cheerful visual impact as well as the mini versions which are great as gifts. Your sculpture should not be placed near a fire or radiator as its construction uses hot glue which could possibly re-melt near a heat source. You can also have it personalised for free! There is space for a few words on it's body so that you can make it even more special by adding a name or significant phrase - just let me know what you fancy. If none of this satisfies, you can buy selected template designs from my Make It Yourself page or book into a workshop with me! If you have any more questions please just get in touch and I’ll do my very best to help! : )
